This is a great opportunity to gain experience of working with adults with learning disability. Would you like to support people to get the most out of their experiences?
At Nutley Edge, we run supported holidays for people with learning disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and for those needing respite. These Activity Breaks and are run by Outward, a London-based charity that has been successfully supporting people with learning disabilities and ASD for over forty years.
Our Activity Breaks are accessible holidays that give people the chance to get some country air, make friends and try new activities, to get away from the daily routine and have a proper break. Our guests get involved in sports, art, music, visiting local attractions, photography, nature trails, baking, pampering, tie-dye and many other countryside pursuits.
Benefits
- Provide on-line training
- Provide you with references
- Invite you to our special events
- Provide opportunities for peer support
- A dedicated volunteer supervisor to support you in your role.
Practical Considerations
- We will need to carry out an enhanced DBS Check (Data Barring Service) before you can start with us, which we will pay for. So we will need you to provide some identification documents; and we will also ask for two references. You will then get an induction into Outward, our policies and procedures and be linked to our key on-line training courses.
- Please note we are in a rural location and travelling to us via public transport can be tricky as buses are very infrequent. Drivers are desirable and we have free on-site parking.
Support Disabled
Please note our site is wheelchair accessible.Skills
We are looking for people who are respectful, empathetic, positive, and reliable. Committed to empowering the people we support to make their own choices and get the most out of their holiday. And passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. Volunteers work alongside our support worker team to engage guests in activities and aim to create a relaxing yet fun holiday atmosphere.
Volunteers can give as little or as much time as suits them, whether that’s joining us on day’s trips, once monthly sessions at Nutley Edge or by running small themed workshops such as art, music and cooking.
You do not need to have any experience just a passion for working with people and a creative outlook on life. We are looking for people who are friendly, positive, have good communication skills, are engaging and enjoy chatting with others. If you have any interest such as art, sports, music, drama, cooking, storytelling, walking then that’s great but not essential.
