Are you interested in the care of the older members of our society. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in taking forward a new strategy for the charity, Beehive Care, which provides end-to-end care for members across respite services and activities, support at home, supported living, and residential care.
Beehive Care, formerly Abbeyfield Ferring Society has over 50 years experience in delivering care services and we are now looking for an exciting and charismatic chair to join our team. It is an important time for the charity, and you will play a key role in a very exciting chapter of our charity as we cease to be part of the National Abbeyfield Society in November and branch out alone, with a new strategy in place to grow the charity and the services we provide across Worthing and West Sussex.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Beehive Care Volunteer Chair:
- You will be responsible for providing effective leadership and management to the Board of Trustees, enabling them to fulfill their responsibilities for the charity's overall governance and strategic direction, and in the delivery of our multiple services, including dementia respite services, carer support and support at home services.
- The Chair is viewed as an ambassador and public face of the charity.
- The Chair provides a vision that ensures the house/home is full, provides high quality support and care, and is well integrated into the community.
- The Chair will support CEO, and where appropriate, challenge the CEO.
- Ensure the Board functions as a unit, working closely with the entire Executive of the charity to achieve agreed objectives.
- Leading on the development and implementation of procedures for Board induction, development, training and appraisal
- Ensuring the Board regularly reviews major risks and associated opportunities.

- You will be expected to attend some training events relevant to the role, as necessary.

Beehive Care will require:
- A commitment to the aims and objectives of the charity and to promoting it in the interests of the residents.
- A willingness to give some time and effort.
- Strategic vision and ability to think creatively.
- Good, independent judgement, possess integrity, objectivity, accountability, honesty and leadership.
- Eligibility to be a Chair.
- An understanding of legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.
- An ability to work effectively in the team, contributing an independent perspective.
When do I need to be available?
| Details | Newly inducted Chairs should expect to serve for no more than 2 terms of 3 years. Required to attend scheduled meetings (Thursdays) and some ad hoc meetings. Time commitment is to be agreed with fellow Trustees and is likely to commensurate with the maturity of the Society's business planning process. |
