Rottingdean Whiteway Centre is a community centre providing a range of educational and leisure courses, talks and activities. The charity was established in 1974 and is run by a Management Committee of volunteers. Courses are led by paid tutors.

The bursar helps oversee the day to day running of the centre. This includes managing and supporting the three part-time caretakers and cleaners, ensuring there is stock of refreshments for attendees and collecting the takings from refreshment cash box.

It is necessary to make short visits to the centre, usually weekly to collect takings. Communications with the caretakers is often done by email. The refreshments are usually bought quarterly, and the bursar will liaise with the volunteer building manager as necessary.  The role is estimated to average 1 hour per week.

In addition throughout the year there are ten monthly evening Management Committee meetings where volunteers meet and share information about their respective activities.
