Brighton Yoga Foundation is a charity that offers a range of therapeutic yoga classes and community outreach yoga programs across the city.

Role and Responsibilities: As a Secretary Trustee, you will play a crucial role in supporting the governance and administrative functions of our organization, contributing significantly to keeping our organization running smoothly. Here's what you'll be responsible for:

  • Maintaining accurate records of all our board meetings and important documents.
  • Coordinating and organizing board meetings and ensuring timely communication.
  • Taking notes during meetings to record discussions and decisions. Maintain a list of agreed actions decided between trustee meetings.
  • Organizing for policies and procedures to be reviewed and approved by the Board, as required.
  • Managing communication and notices to board members.
  • Ensuring compliance with its governing document, charity law, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

Qualifications: We're looking for someone with:
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective written communication abilities.
  • Keen attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Some understanding of organizational dynamics.
  • A passionate commitment to our mission and values.

What You'll Gain: If you join us as a Secretary Trustee, here's what's in it for you:

  • The opportunity to positively impact our community and be part of something meaningful.

  • Personal growth as you gain experience in governance, leadership, and planning.

  • Access to a network of diverse professionals and experts in your field through board interactions.

  • The satisfaction of collaborating with a dedicated team toward a common goal.

  • Opportunities to enhance your organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Because of the range of work that we do (which also includes running an annual yoga festival attracting 3000 people), the volunteer would learn a lot about the yoga and well-being community and enhance their skills in various areas such as event management, marketing, and administration.

Practical Considerations

Expectations: Trustees are expected to attend at least four board meetings each year (mainly online), and most trustees get involved in the work of sub-committees, such as those focused on yoga outreach or fundraising, which typically involve around one sub-committee meeting per month. Additional meetings may be scheduled throughout the year for urgent matters requiring the attention or decision-making of all members. Notice will be provided in such cases. The minimum commitment as a Trustee is 3 years.

Being part of a Yoga Foundation as a trustee offers a unique opportunity to give back to the community, develop personally and professionally, and enjoy the benefits of a healthier and more connected lifestyle.

We're excited to hear from you and welcome you to our team!
