The RWC Chair is stepping down after 4 years. We are seeking a new Chair to lead a management committee (MC) of volunteers who run this self-supporting charity community centre. With 2 large halls & 2 rooms, we organise adult education courses & special events & hire rooms to a nursery, local groups & for parties.
 The Chair:
• understands the aims & purpose of the charity
• knows all RWC aspects & its functions
• prepares for & chairs ten MC meetings a year & the AGM
• takes the lead to ensure effective governance of RWC
• works closely with the MC trustees to deliver the charity’s aims
• can mediate successfully, garner respect & be an effective communicator
• recruits, inducts, & supports volunteers for the Centre
• builds on local connections to be an advocate for RWC, recognising its valuable place in village life for the last 50 years
Like all the trustees, the role is voluntary & unpaid. The outgoing chair is willing to provide support during a transitional period.


  •  An understanding of Charity governance
  •  Awareness of financial principles
  •  The ability to share information clearly to individuals and groups, and to use IT tools
  •  Experience of supporting a group of diverse people to make effective decisions
  •  Tact, diplomacy and powers of persuasion and an ability to remain even handed
  •  The ability to motivate, support and coach members of the MC
  •  Ideally, some business, managerial and/or professional expertise
  •  Preferably, some experience in the voluntary sector.

  • Working with the other like-minded and supportive members of the management committee.
  • Working in a centre with an excellent reputation for the quality of its adult education provision.

Practical Considerations

We are seeking a person who can give some time to the community. Ideally they should live locally to Rottingdean and preferably have the use of a car.

Travel expenses to attend meetings can be paid.

The Centre is 2 minutes’ walk from the No 2 bus route and 8 minutes’ walk from bus routes 12, 14 and 27.
