Black and Minority Ethnic Young People's Project (BMEYPP)

The aim of the role is to provide information, support and advice to Black, Asian, Arab and Mixed Parentage young people aged 11 to 25 at the BMEYPP drop in sessions. The drop in sessions currently take place weekly on Wednesdays and offer a variety of activities such as multi-cultural cooking, arts and crafts, games. Sometimes we invite specialists to come and facilitate activities, or we may show a film and have a discussion, or an inspirational guest speaker. We are looking for Black, Asian, Arab and Mixed parentage young people (aged 18+)  and adults, who can be positive role models, build trusting relationships with young people, as well as help with the setting up and clearing up at the sessions.

Skills

As well as being a BME person, we are seeking people who are reliable, trust worthy and respectful, who are able to develop positive non-judgemental relationships with young people and who can demonstrate resilience, patience, empathy and tolerance.

It would be advantageous if you have skills in arts, crafts, performance arts such as music making, drama, dance, podcasting, poetry, photography, fim making, textiles, cooking and be willing to share them with young people through taster sessions or developing projects with them.

It will also be advantageous if you have previous experience of working with young people, in formal or informal settings.

  • The drop in sessions currently take place in Palmeria Square which is well served by buses.
  • There is on street parking nearby for example in Palmeria Square. 
  • Timings of the drop in are 6pm to 8.00pm.

When do I need to be available?

Details The sessions take place on Wednesday between 6pm and 9pm - this takes account clearing up at the end of the session.
