We're looking for people interested in bike mechanics to volunteer fixing up second-hand bikes donated by members of the public at the University of Sussex campus at Falmer. The time commitment would be a four hour shift every week or fortnight (this can be flexible.) This would be in the daytime on a weekday or weekend.
Brighton Bike Hub is a non-profit that aims to help everybody access cycling by running adult cycle training, a drop-in bike repair workshop, selling affordable second-hand bikes and parts, and running group cycle rides.
Our main workshop is at 26b St Martin's Place, Brighton, BN2 3LE (we are always looking for volunteers here too). However, we are hoping to support a new workshop at the University of Sussex which will resell second-hand bikes and offer bike repair drop-in events.
No experience is necessary, but you do need a willingness to learn about bikes and be able to commit to volunteering regularly. Training and support are provided.
Benefits
You will be part of a friendly and enthusiastic team with monthly volunteer socials and monthly meetings where everyone has a say.
You will help people in Brighton and Falmer have access to affordable bikes and the ability to repair their own bikes cheaply, increasing access to cycling for all. You will also learn skills about repairing bikes yourself.
You will be encouraging green transport options and making sure old bikes and bike parts aren't wasted, which is great for the environment.
Practical Considerations
The location is easily accessible by public transport. Volunteer hours can be regular or flexible.
Support Disabled
We are an inclusive organisation and can discuss any additional needs we can accommodate when you apply.Skills
No previous skills necessary other than an interest in learning about bikes and bike mechanics.
