Foster Carer

We are looking for foster carers for the cats who come into our care. This will be on a short-term basis whilst we look to find the cat a perfect forever home.

The role involves:

•  welcoming a new cat into your home in a nurturing and loving way
•  taking care of the cat’s day-to-day needs (food, water, cleaning litter tray and their living space, playing with / socialising the cat and grooming them)
•  giving medication if required
•  supporting with vet appointments if appropriate
•  accommodating pre-booked visits from potential adopters who have passed our initial checks.

You will need to:

•  be able to give enough time to the cat
•  either own your home or have written permission from the landlord to foster cats
•  be 18 years or older
•  provide us with regular updates and information about the cat’s personality, habits, likes, dislikes etc enabling us to find the perfect forever home match for each cat.

Practical Considerations

Our foster cats are kept inside so our foster carers do not need a garden or outside space.

If a foster carer is renting their home we will ask for written permission from the landlord for you to foster a cat.

However, please note, the saying goodbye to a cat when they move on to their forever home can be a very emotional time for the foster carer, particularly when it is their hard work that has helped the cat get to the place where they are ready for adoption.

Skills

A love of cats is essential. Experience of cat ownership preferred.

Patience and understanding of each cat's individual circumstance is required. We have the background and history of some of the cats who come in to our care, however some cats come to us and we do not know their background.

Foster carers are a crucial part of each cats journey to a better life, often helping a cat to de-stress and learn routine again. Foster carers support us to understand the nature of each cat, their likes and dislikes helping to ensure we find a forever home match that works for both the cat and their new family.
