Stay Up Late (and Gig Buddies)

We’re always looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to buddy up with someone with a learning disability and/or an autistic person.

Volunteering with Gig Buddies means being matched with someone with a learning disability and/or an autistic person to enjoy gigs, events, and nights out together. It’s all about building real friendships, sharing good times, and helping someone feel more connected. If you’re friendly, reliable, and up for a monthly outing, we’d love to hear from you!

We currently need volunteers across Sussex, including:

Brighton & Hove and Worthing and surrounding areas if you are willing to travel.

Benefits

All volunteers take part in training that covers topics like learning disability awareness, communication, safeguarding, and possible scenarios. We also carry out DBS checks and ask for two references to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing.

Practical Considerations

We recommend meeting at least once a month. We also organise regular social events where all buddies can get together, share experiences, and build a wider community.

Skills

  • Friendly, reliable, flexible and have up for a good time.
  • Able to commit to one training day and regular monthly meet-ups.
  • Supportive of our mission to help people with learning disabilities lead full social lives.
  • Willing to buddy up for at least one year, to give the friendship time to grow.
