Hosting a survivor of modern slavery

Hope at Home

You'll be over the age of 25 and will have the goodwill and generosity to offer a safe home to a survivor of modern slavery for a fixed period of time (normally 3-6 months).

As a host, you will be able to provide a spare bedroom and access to bathroom, laundry and kitchen facilities in your own own home and be able to recognise and meet individual needs, promote resilience and independence and provide stability for a person in need of a space space.

You will be available for Host Training and must be willing to undertake a DBS check and provide us with two references.

You will be willing to include your guest as a member of your household. For example, you might cook a meal together or eat together. You might go shopping or for a walk together. Other needs might be accompanying them to appointments or supporting them to take public transport. It doesn’t have to be intense, simply sharing everyday life can be enough. You are not hosting as a professional and we do not expect you to provide professional services such as counselling or legal advice. You are simply welcoming another person into your household.

  • We provide in-depth training, regular updates and one to one support for all our hosts
  • You will have the opportunity to learn from your guests; perhaps new languages, experiencing different cultures and your life will be enhanced by the act of supporting others
  • We pay all our hosts an allowance to cover the additional costs of hosting.

Practical Considerations

Hosting can be as flexible as you need it to be. You can be single or in a relationship, you can rent or own your own home, you can work in or out of the home or not work at all, you can have children in your household. We just ask that you offer a warm welcome and acceptance and are available to spend some time with your guest, such as an evening meal once or twice a week.

When do I need to be available?
