Independent Visitor - befriender to a young person in care in Brighton
Independent Visitor Service - Surrey County Council
Visiting a child or young person living in a foster, or children's home and taking them out in the community once a month e.g bowling, cinema, walking etc. We ask for a minimum of a two year commitment to the child, we offer training and ongoing support and reimburse all agreed expenses. We ask for a police check and take up references.
Skills
A genuine wish to become a consistent, reliable and supportive friend to a child or young person. A sense of humour, be a good listener, be understanding, patient and trustworthy.
Benefits
Training and ongoing support- an initial 2 day training course, ongoing back up and opportunities to attend monthly support groups and meet other Independent Visitors.
Enormous personal satisfaction and fun, perhaps trying activities you've not done before but we'd never expect you to do anything you're not comfortable doing!
Practical Considerations
It will be easier if you are car driver and have access to a car. Visits usually take place at w/e's but many older children are happy to meet up with you after college/work-often just for a meal or a coffee and a chat.
When do I need to be available?
Details | We have open evenings (to be held virtually)- 2nd May and 16th May dates for training (10am-4pm approx) on 8th and 22nd June (in Surrey) If you can attend both dates that would be great but we can work with you on an individual basis if not. |
