Join MindOut’s Board of Trustees

We are seeking new Trustees to join our voluntary Board and support our vital work improving the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ people.

Trustees play a crucial role in providing strong governance, shaping our strategic direction, and acting as ambassadors for MindOut and our values. By becoming a Trustee, you will help ensure that LGBTQ people have access to essential, inclusive mental health support - tackling health inequalities, reducing stigma, and contributing to a fairer, more inclusive society.

Benefits

Volunteering with MindOut offers the opportunity to be part of something meaningful – reducing isolation, building confidence, and creating safe spaces where LGBTQ people feel heard and supported.

Benefits include:

  • The satisfaction of supporting vital LGBTQ mental health services when they are needed most
  • Flexibility, including the option to participate remotely
  • Opportunities to develop new skills and strengthen existing ones
  • A full induction, training and ongoing support
  • A Trustee buddy during your induction period
  • Access to learning and development opportunities, including A–Z of LGBTQ Mental Health Inclusion and Trans 101 Mental Health training
  • The opportunity to enhance your CV and receive a Trustee reference
  • Being part of a committed, values‑led and enthusiastic Board.

Practical Considerations

  • Term of Office and Requirements
  • Trustees are appointed for a minimum term of 3 years
  • Trustees may serve a maximum of 3 terms (9 years) before taking a minimum one‑year break
  • An Enhanced Disclosure (DBS) check is required
  • This is an unpaid voluntary role, however reasonable expenses are reimbursed in line with MindOut’s expenses policy

Skills

Diversity and Experience

Our Board is strongest when it reflects a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives and lived experiences. We warmly welcome applications from people with all skills and levels of experience.
