Wandering Emotions

We run Nature & Wellbeing Activity Walks that encourage families to engage with nature in a unique, fun way. We spark essential conversations to increase emotional literacy and teach skills that nurture resilience.

During the walks, we pause for reflection and creative exercises that help participants express emotions in their own way. Our outdoor activities are a mix of art, mindfulness and nature exploration.

Wellbeing Walk Facilitators will help to lead groups of families on guided nature walks through local green spaces. We encourage volunteers to bring their own skills, perspectives, and ideas to enrich the wellbeing walk experience. While a range of activities will be planned in advance, we warmly welcome new exercises or approaches.

Volunteers are free to decide on the day whether they feel comfortable leading an activity, there is no expectation or pressure to do so. Everyone is encouraged to contribute at a level that suits them.

Benefits

  • Build hands-on experience in wellbeing, community engagement, and working with families, while contributing to positive mental health outcomes in your local community.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to join in wellbeing activities, connect with nature, and enjoy the walks alongside the families.
  • As volunteers we often grab a coffee afterwards or meet-up to take photos and videos for social media in a fun, low-pressure environment.

Safeguarding training will be provided, and reasonable expenses will be covered.

Practical Considerations

Walks take part in local public green spaces in Brighton & Hove. These can be easily accessed by public transport or there is nearby paid parking.

Support Disabled

We are committed to making this volunteering opportunity as inclusive and accessible as possible. We recognise that volunteers may have different needs and are happy to discuss individual requirements in advance to ensure everyone feels comfortable and supported. Support can include: - Flexibility in roles and responsibilities, allowing volunteers to engage at a level that suits their comfort, confidence, and abilities. - The option to take on non-leading roles, such as supporting conversations with families or assisting with activities rather than facilitating them. - Clear guidance and structured plans for each session, so volunteers know what to expect. - A welcoming and supportive team environment, with opportunities to ask questions and receive informal guidance throughout. - Flexibility around attendance and breaks during walks, ensuring volunteers can step back when needed. - Consideration of accessibility needs, including planning routes that are suitable for wheelchair users where possible and sharing route information in advance so volunteers can assess suitability. If there are specific adjustments or support needs, we encourage volunteers to let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate these wherever possible.
