Gaydio, the UK's LGBTQ+ radio station, is looking for a Non-Executive Director with finance experience to join our board. We broadcast on 97.8FM in Brighton and reach over half a million people a week across the UK. We are a not-for-profit group of four organisations overseen by a joint board.

This is an oversight role, not a hands-on finance job. You would help the board scrutinise budgets, management accounts and cash flow forecasts, oversee grant funding and restricted income, weigh financial risk and reserves, and oversee the year-end accounts.

Commitment: around six online board meetings a year (third Wednesday of the month, 5pm to 7pm) plus one in-person session, roughly five hours a month. Voluntary, with reasonable expenses covered.

Applications close on Friday 16 October 2026. Full details and the application form: gaydio.co.uk/contact/non-executive-director

Skills

Essential: experience of financial management, reporting or oversight in an organisation of around £1m turnover or larger; confidence reading management accounts and cash flow forecasts and explaining them to non-finance colleagues; an understanding of risk management; a passion for improving the lives of LGBTQ+ people.

Desirable: a recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA), though senior finance experience without one is welcome; an understanding of grant funding and restricted income in the not-for-profit or charity sector; experience of working with senior management, up to board level.

We particularly welcome applications from women, bisexual, trans and non-binary people, and people from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds. You must be eligible to act as a UK company director and willing to complete a DBS check.

Benefits

1. Board-level experience as a registered company director of a growing not-for-profit media group.

2. Insight into the media and broadcasting sector, including an Ofcom-regulated business, grant funding and commercial revenue, plus a structured induction and a supportive board.

3. A real impact on an LGBTQ+ organisation that reaches over half a million people a week, with invitations to Gaydio events such as the Pride Awards and our business networking evenings. Reasonable expenses are covered.

Practical Considerations

Board meetings are held online, so you can take part from anywhere in the UK. We meet around six times a year, usually the third Wednesday of the month from 5pm to 7pm, with one in-person session a year in Manchester. Travel and accommodation for in-person meetings are covered.

Our Brighton studio is in the city centre and our main studio is in central Manchester, both close to public transport.

Supporting individuals with additional support needs and/or disabilities

We ask about accessibility and support needs when people apply and will make adjustments, for example board papers in alternative formats, joining meetings by phone, or extra time in the application process.

When do I need to be available?
