Do you enjoy meeting new people and making a positive difference in someone's life? 

Guild Care is looking for friendly and compassionate Befriending Volunteers to support older people in Worthing who may be feeling isolated, lonely, or lacking confidence to get out and about. 

This rewarding volunteer role gives you the opportunity to build meaningful connections while helping people regain confidence, independence, and social engagement. 

What You'll Be Doing 

  • Visiting someone in their home on a regular basis 
  • Supporting individuals to reconnect with their community 
  • Encouraging confidence in people affected by reduced mobility, illness, or falls 
  • Sharing your own skills, hobbies, and interests, such as chess, languages, crafting, gardening, or anything you're passionate about! 




Skills

We are looking for friendly and reliable people who:

  • Have great listening skills and an ability to communicate with a range of different people.
  • Can empathise with older people who are feeling lonely or isolated.
  • Have a non-judgemental attitude and is accepting of people's differences.
  • Have some knowledge of local services in Worthing area.
  • Can role model our Values, maintain confidentiality and comply with appropriate policies.
  • Can work unsupervised in the local community (support and training will be provided).
  • Can provide satisfactory DBS Check.

Practical Considerations

This role will involve building relationships over time so an ability to:

  • commit to meeting regularly,  at a mutually convenient time.
  • travel to different homes, so access to transport will needed.
  • This is a lone working role

Supporting individuals with additional support needs and/or disabilities

This role involves lone working in the home of a potentially vulnerable member of the community. This role may not be suitable for volunteers needing certain aspects of support due to safety implications but please get in touch with us about other roles.

When do I need to be available?

Details We would ask that visits are carried out between 9-4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
