We are hoping to paint the hallway of our house for adults with learning disabilities in Withdean, northern Brighton. Nine adults live here, in a charity committed to promoting their independence through life skills training and fully individualised support.

We are hoping to paint the rather tired looking entrance hallway and up the stairs.

Benefits

We are hoping to arrange a small group of volunteers so a fun, communal day can be had, helping improve the living environment of our tenants. We will have our buildings manager on hand to give practical advice for the painting, so volunteers will obtain skills in painting and decorating, as well as an insight to how a supported living house for adults with learning disabilities operates.

Practical Considerations

We have off road parking in the driveway of the house. We will have tea and coffee available as well as access to the kitchen to store snacks and lunch. There is a small parade of shops nearby.

Support Disabled

The main hallway is accessed by one step up and over a raised threshold. We will make any adjustments requested for accessibility to the hallway, for example providing chairs, access to comfortable spaces for rest etc. Painting the stairway does require being able to walk up the stairs. We are a supported living house for adults with learning disabilities and fully welcome volunteers with learning disabilities, either with or without a support worker to assist them. Our own support workers will be on hand to offer advice but will be busy with our tenants and so cannot get involved with the painting itself. Please contact us to discuss further anything we can do to make this project accessible.

Skills

Painting and decorating experience would be useful but is not essential.
