We are seeking an empathetic, strong listener to facilitate a peer-to-peer support group for family members and carers of those affected by substance and or alcohol misuse. The purpose of the group is to offer support, a safe space and a space for Family members, Carers and Friends to be able to talk in a non-judgemental and safe environment and share experiences with one and other.

This volunteer role is within the Brighton and Hove Substance Misuse Service. It will involve supporting families and carers affected by substance misuse through peer-to-peer support as well as linking in with other agencies within the community and mutual aid groups.

All Volunteers will receive a comprehensive training package covering the issues that our service provides support with, This includes 3 5 hours Training days on Alcohol Awareness, Drug Awareness, Confidentiality, boundaries and safeguarding. 

Once In post, the volunteer will receive ongoing support and will be offered Monthly Supervision sessions to identify any extra training or support needed to carry out your role. 


Most of our volunteer opportunities don’t need any special qualifications. We’ll make sure you get all the training and support you need. All we ask is that you're kind, open-minded and passionate about supporting people. 

Any Experience of having a family member, or being a carer for some one who has struggled with the issues our service provides support with would be desirable but by no means essential. 


All Travel Expenses within Brighton and hove will be covered, limited to Bus, Trains and Driving. 

Volunteers with in our service are able to access a range of benefits, including a plethora of Health and wellbeing resources and information. Volunteers are able to apply for a Charity Worker Discount card which offers hundreds of discounts both Online and on the High street. 

Practical Considerations

The Group that the post holder will facilitate is hosted at the Corner Stone Community Centre, on Church Road, in Hove on Tuesdays between 1-3pm. Our Head Office is just off Lewes Road, Some travel between the 2 sites may be necessary and travel expenses will be covered.
