Interested in restorative justice for young people?  Looking for a volunteering role offering excellent training and skills development? If so, please read on....

We are looking for volunteers to train to become Referral Order Panel Members in West Sussex.
Your role will be to facilitate a restorative meeting with the young person post-sentencing, accompanied by their parents/carers, to talk about what happened and the impact of their actions on the victim/s or community.
Specific tasks
1. Familiarise yourself with the case background before the panel meets.
2. Engage and facilitate a conversation with the young person, parents/carers and victim (if present) in order the create a tailor-made and individual contract aimed at repairing some of the harm caused.
3. Discuss and recommend programmes which can help reduce the likelihood of re-offending.
4. Review the young person’s progress.
5. In partnership with the YOS Advisor, evaluate and consider cases of non-compliance.

Skills

We are looking for people who:

  8.  Take a professional approach to the role.
  9.  Are able to respect and operate within service policies and procedures.
  10.   Have a commitment to, and engagement with ongoing support, training and development.

Practical Considerations

Training

You will receive comprehensive training before you start the role and must be available to attend our next training programme which is planned for April/May 2024 in Horsham.

Please note this is a long term volunteering role. We are only able to accept applications from people who are able to commit to volunteer for at least one year after being trained. 

When do I need to be available?

Details Referral Order panel meetings are arranged across the county and can happen at any time Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and occasionally early evening. Panel members are asked to give availability for when they are free and what area they would like to cover.
