We are a choir for people impacted by homelessness and other forms of marginalisation. Our aim is for our members (including our volunteers!) to have fun, build their confidence, improve skills and wellbeing, and make friends. We also provide a hot, healthy meal, cooked by our volunteer team on a rota.

We’re looking for sopranos and basses to join our choir as musical volunteers between now and January to support the sound of our choir at our weekly rehearsals on Mondays 5.30 -9.30 at All Saints Church, Hove. This is to help us get stage-ready for our Big Christmas Gig on 15th December at the Brighton Dome.

Our music volunteers are part of a rostered musical team who give section specific singing support in rehearsals and at gigs. Rehearsals are on Mondays 5.30 – 9.30 at All Saints Church, Hove.
Benefits

  • A lot of fun! Singing with our choir is a feel-good, heart-warming experience.
  • Training! We work alongside BHT Sussex, meaning you get access to their whole training programme.
  • Experience working with an inclusive arts organisation, learning how to make singing accessible.
  • The opportunity to sing onstage at the Brighton Dome!

Support Disabled

All Saints is an accessible venue, and we have seating available at all times for those that need to sit. Ruth the choir manager is happy to meet with people and talk through and additional support needs and plans around this that they might have, including not doing tasks such as washing up/getting involved in the kitchen.

Skills

  •  Have strong musicality, picking up the music and harmony parts quickly in a rehearsal environment. We expect you to be able to do this by ear, like our members. You are not expected to read music (but if you can, that’s good to know!)
  •  Are confident singers. We need you to sing audibly (and accurately) for our members balancing the confidence and ability of your section: singing loudly when they need you to and singing less loudly when they’ve got it!
  •  Have the ability to get on well with our members, who may be experiencing personal difficulties.
  •  Have a calm and non-judgemental attitude
  •  Ask for support or guidance when they need it, from more experienced volunteers as well as staff
  •  Follow health and safety regulations, safeguarding and confidentiality policies (once explained).
