Our trustees are legally responsible for the governance of the charity. This means they must make sure that Lost Cats Brighton achieves its objectives, which are set out in our governing document.
The trustees ensure that we have a strategy, and that our assets and resources are only used for charitable purposes in line with the governing document.
The Trustees make sure that Lost Cats Brighton operate in line with any relevant laws, particularly the Charities and Companies Acts.
Our Trustees have a collective responsibility, working together to achieve the best interests of Lost Cats Brighton. This is in relation to both lost cats and cats in need of rescuing and rehoming.

Our Trustees work as part of a team, supporting our network of volunteers. The role offers the opportunity to gain experience in cat welfare, volunteer management and strategic planning.
Practical Considerations
The Trustee role can be done working from home although opportunities will be available to join volunteers representing Lost Cats Brighton at community events.
Potential new trustees are invited to shadow a board meeting and will be provided with detailed information about Lost Cats Brighton as a charity as well as more general information about the role of a charity trustee.
Ongoing support is provided from the experienced group of trustees already supporting the charity.
Skills
This role blends relationship building, strategic planning, creativity and data driven decision making with face-to-face teamwork and in-person outreach community work.
Skills required include:
- Core governance and a good understanding of the legal duties of a charity trustee
- An ability to think strategically
- An excellent communicator
- Financial awareness
- Happy to work as part of a team
- Voluntary and / or professional experience in any of the below:
Cat welfare, Fundraising, Marketing and / or Social Media.
When do I need to be available?
| Details | We have 4 in-person Board Meetings per year and 4 online Operations Meetings. Trustees are expected to attend these, prepare reports on their given area in advance of the Board Meeting and devote sufficient time to read through the board papers in advance of the meetings. The dates of each meeting are arranged in advance with input from each Trustee to find a suitable time for all. |
