East Worthing Community Centre was built in 1987 and is a buzzing place in the heart of the community offering weekly groups, pre-school and rooms for hire during the day and evening (seven days a week) in a fully accessible building. 

Trustees work together to ensure East Worthing Community Centre fulfills its purpose, using resources and funds effectively to benefit the local community.

Jointly with all Trustees you will be:

  • Involved in the responsibilities and decision making of the charity
  • Supporting and managing the Centre Managers
  • Leading East Worthing Community Centre according to our values
  • Contributing and agreeing to board discussions, setting goals and future direction
  • Attending Trustee meetings
  • Overseeing financial plans,statements and budgets
  • Promoting and representing the Community Centre
  • If possible, sharing attendance at relevant networks

Skills

You don’t have to have previous or current committee member/trustee experience (as we will provide induction and training) - we are looking for people who are part of the local community and/or knows the local East Worthing community, and can bring the following:

  • Brings and shares their different perspectives, skills and ideas
  • Wants to support and get to know the local community - ensuring the centre is open for all
  • Shares our vision and values
  • Able to contribute to trustee meetings
  • Able to collaborate and be part of a team
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Able to use independent judgement
  • The willingness and ability to understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities of being a East Worthing Community Centre Trustee
  • A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

The following are not necessary to be a trustee with us, however you may have these skills and experiences you want to share as part of being a trustee; finance, marketing, social media, project management, administration, fundraising, becoming an incorporated charity (CIO).

Practical Considerations

  • We are ideally looking for someone who is able to attend 9-10 meetings a year and the annual general meeting. However, we do understand this might not be possible for everyone, so we welcome a chat with anyone interested in the role to consider your availability. 
  • There are opportunities to attend events held by us.
