We are looking to appoint a Trustee with expertise in financial management to join our experienced Board, which oversees our organisation's governance, compliance, reach, and impact, and to contribute to our Finance Sub-Committee. This is an exciting opportunity to use your financial expertise to support YMCA Brighton, providing accommodation, support, and opportunities for people facing homelessness and complex needs. As a Finance Trustee, you will play a vital role in ensuring that YMCA Brighton remains financially resilient, well-governed, and able to deliver its mission of transforming lives and strengthening communities.
We are looking for someone who can bring strong financial insight, strategic thinking, and a collaborative approach to our Board. You do not need previous charity trustee experience—just the passion, integrity, and professional experience to make a meaningful contribution.
Becoming a trustee at YMCA Brighton means joining a supportive, values driven organisation that is passionate about creating positive change. You’ll collaborate with a dedicated Board and Leadership Team, gain valuable governance experience, and help guide a charity making a real difference to local lives.
Key Responsibilities

- Approve and monitor the implementation of operational strategies and policies.
- Oversee the organisation’s financial plans, budgets and performance, ensuring effective use of resources.

- Review and approve the organisation’s financial statements and ensure compliance with relevant accounting and regulatory requirements.
- Provide constructive support and challenge to the CEO and Leadership Team.
- Prepare for and attend Board meetings, using independent judgement and acting in the best interests of YMCA Brighton.
- Stay informed about changes within the charity’s operating environment and contribute to regular governance reviews.
- Act as an ambassador for YMCA Brighton, promoting its objectives, aims and reputation using your expertise and networks.
Benefits
- Experience and knowledge of volunteering for homeless charity.
- Being part of YMCA Brighton Board of Trustees to help reduce homelessness and enhance lives of people who live or access access services of YMCA Brighton.
- Comprehensive induction to support you in carrying out the duties of a Trustee.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Professional experience in finance, accounting, audit, or financial management.
