We are looking to appoint a Trustee with expertise in financial management to join our experienced Board, which oversees our organisation's governance, compliance, reach, and impact, and to contribute to our Finance Sub-Committee. This is an exciting opportunity to use your financial expertise to support YMCA Brighton, providing accommodation, support, and opportunities for people facing homelessness and complex needs. As a Finance Trustee, you will play a vital role in ensuring that YMCA Brighton remains financially resilient, well-governed, and able to deliver its mission of transforming lives and strengthening communities.

We are looking for someone who can bring strong financial insight, strategic thinking, and a collaborative approach to our Board. You do not need previous charity trustee experience—just the passion, integrity, and professional experience to make a meaningful contribution.

Becoming a trustee at YMCA Brighton means joining a supportive, values driven organisation that is passionate about creating positive change. You’ll collaborate with a dedicated Board and Leadership Team, gain valuable governance experience, and help guide a charity making a real difference to local lives.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Support and advise on YMCA Brighton’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
  •  Approve and monitor the implementation of operational strategies and policies.
  •  Oversee the organisation’s financial plans, budgets and performance, ensuring effective use of resources.
  •  Ensure the efficient administration of the charity, with appropriate financial controls in place. • Ensure that key organisational risks—especially financial risks—are identified, monitored and well managed.
  •  Review and approve the organisation’s financial statements and ensure compliance with relevant accounting and regulatory requirements.
  •  Provide constructive support and challenge to the CEO and Leadership Team.
  •  Prepare for and attend Board meetings, using independent judgement and acting in the best interests of YMCA Brighton.
  •  Stay informed about changes within the charity’s operating environment and contribute to regular governance reviews.
  •  Act as an ambassador for YMCA Brighton, promoting its objectives, aims and reputation using your expertise and networks.
Please note the closing date for this opportunity is 30th April 2026.

Benefits

  • Experience and knowledge of volunteering for homeless charity.
  • Being part of YMCA Brighton Board of Trustees to help reduce homelessness and enhance lives of people who live or access access services of YMCA Brighton.
  • Comprehensive induction to support you in carrying out the duties of a Trustee.

Skills

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  •  Professional experience in finance, accounting, audit, or financial management.
  •  The ability to analyse financial information and communicate it clearly.
  •  Strong governance awareness and sound judgement.
