Wishing Well Music for Health

We are a small charity bringing music to the heart of healthcare in Sussex and Surrey. Working in partnership with NHS healthcare settings and with people of all ages in hospital, we turn clinical places into cultural spaces, creating joy, levity, connection and expression through shared music-making.

We run weekly music-making sessions at patients’ bedsides and group settings with a range of hospitals in Sussex and Surrey. Our partners include neonatal units, children’s hospitals, psychiatric wards for young people and for people with dementia, elderly care wards and intensive care units.

We offer training to hospital volunteers, healthcare professionals and medical students at Brighton and Sussex medical school.

We share our knowledge generously, advocating for the Arts for Health movement through our partnerships and networks.

What do our current Trustees say?

“I’m so proud to have been one of the founding directors of this amazing and impactful organisation. I’m a passionate advocate of music’s power to support wellbeing and transform lives and it’s been a privilege to be a part of the journey of bringing that power to people who are often experiencing huge challenges with their and their families’ health.

Our CEO is a committed, brilliant woman who is a joy to work with. The organisation is small enough to be agile and responsive but established enough to be stable and able to plan for the future.  I would heartily encourage any prospective trustees to apply; you’ll have fun, learn a lot, work with some inspiring people and bring music-making joy to many.”

Marie Benton, Trustee

"Having been a Trustee at Wishing Well for just under two years whilst working in the NHS as a Clinician, I have had the wonderful opportunity to contribute to Wishing Well's vision of using  music to enrich people's well-being through shared music making.

The other Trustees and the CEO have been inspirational to work with - their expertise and passion has allowed wishing well to succeed in many new funding projects and ventures. I have had the opportunity to utilise my pre-existing skills as well as learn and develop in areas less familiar to me including organisational change. Being involved has also deepened my understanding of how powerful music can be as a mechanism for change growth and well-being. "

Eleanor Carson, Treasurer
