Trustee with Lived Experience

Who we are:

The Grace Eyre Foundation is a charity based in Brighton & Hove and the wider Sussex community that has been working with people with Learning Disabilities and autistic people since 1898.

We provide a number of different services for our community including Active Lives, Shared Lives, Choices, Housing, and Our Voices.

We are looking for new trustees to join our board and help guide, protect, and strengthen our organisation. We want people who believe in inclusion, choice, and empowering others. 

What is a Trustee?

• Trustees are the people who make big decisions for the charity
• By law all charities must have trustees
• Trustees decide what Grace Eyre should focus on and how the charity spends its money 

Skills

We are looking for people who are willing to speak up, challenge and advocate for meaningful change.

We actively welcome trustees with lived experience of learning disability, autism, mental health support needs or acquired brain injuries.

Practical Considerations

The role involves:

• Going to Board meetings
• going to the Annual General Meeting
• Representing the charity at public events

Supporting individuals with additional support needs and/or disabilities

Grace Eyre offers additional support for trustees with a learning disability and/or autistic trustees including training, briefings, jargon buster cards, and a buddy system.

When do I need to be available?

Details	On going throughout the year- Board meetings are held on Monday evenings however engagement will be required outside of this.
