Not every volunteer needs to wear a uniform or lead a group of cadets. Some of the most important roles happen behind the scenes – and we’re looking for friendly, organised volunteers to help support the smooth running of our unit.

Whether you’re great with admin, enjoy fixing things, love planning events, or simply want to lend a hand where needed, your time and energy can make a huge difference to our cadets and volunteer team.

Unit Support Volunteers play a vital part in keeping things ticking behind the scenes. Tasks will vary depending on your skills and availability, but may include:

  •  Admin support – managing records, or DBS checks
  • Event support – helping organise events, stalls or open days
  •  Maintenance and facilities – assisting with repairs, equipment checks
  • Logistics and kit – managing uniforms or setting up activities
  • Fundraising and grants – helping us raise funds

No two weeks are the same, and you’ll be part of a welcoming and supportive team.

Benefits

Be Part of a Meaningful Cause – Play a vital role in supporting a youth charity that helps local young people gain confidence, skills and life-changing experiences.

Use and Grow Your Skills – Put your admin, practical or organisational talents to great use, with opportunities to develop new ones along the way.

Join a Friendly Volunteer Team – Enjoy the social side of volunteering, make new friends, and be part of a supportive, purpose-driven community.

Practical Considerations

Public Transport: The Drill Hall and Lizard Hubs are easily accessible by local bus routes, with stops nearby on New Church Road and Portland Road.

Access: The Drill Hall has step-free access; please contact us to discuss any specific accessibility needs.

Flexible Volunteering: You don’t need to commit to every session – many volunteers join us once a week or help out on occasional weekends. We’ll work with your availability.

  • Experience in admin, events, maintenance or youth settings (a bonus, but not required)
  • Willingness to complete safeguarding training (provided) and support a youth-focused charity.

Whether you can give a couple of hours a week or just help out when you can – your contribution is invaluable.
