We embrace a diverse team of volunteers, and welcome interest from all members of the community. 

Do you want to help increase the local communities awareness of the wide range of volunteer opportunities available across Adur, Worthing, Brighton and Hove. 

People will have different reasons and motivations to volunteer and the Volunteer Centre connects volunteers with local organisations and groups all in one place. We also offer support to charities, non-profits and community groups to create positive volunteering experiences. 

You will be involved in:

  • Replying to enquiries and providing guidance, support and information in searching for volunteering and opportunities (email, phone call or in-person)
  • Searching for opportunities on our database and if needed researching other information resources e.g different websites
  • Adding information and details to our volunteer database (training will be provided)
  • Attending local volunteer events or groups - sharing information about the Volunteer Centre and support offered

You can volunteer at home or in our Brighton and Hove office, or a mixture of both. There will be in-person activities such as the volunteer events and matching and guidance appointments (these including locations will be discussed and agreed together).

Practical Considerations

  • In order to learn the activities of this role, settle into the team and support incoming enquiries we are ideally looking for you to offer three to five hours per week (doesn't have to be all on the same day). However we understand this is might not be possible for everyone, so we welcome a chat with anyone interested in the role to consider your availability. 
  • We reimburse travel expenses. 
  • If volunteering from home we will provide a pay-as-you-go volunteer mobile for your volunteering activities with us and if you don't have access to a laptop/computer we will look at this with you. 
  • You will have a induction and training to the Volunteer Centre, the volunteer role and Community Works, as well as how to use our systems. You will be supported by the Volunteer Centre Coordinator including one-one meetings to ensure all is going well and you have all the support you need. 
  • Ability to travel to venues when we hold matching and guidance in-person sessions (potential appointments and locations will be discussed and agreed together)

Skills

  • Can demonstrate commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. 
  • Good communication skills including listening, and be happy to answer enquiries by phone, email or if possible and appropriate in-person booked appointments.
  • Good IT skills including emails, and a willingness to learn our volunteer database.
  • Ability to carry out or have an interest in basic research to help support enquiries.
  • Reliability, and if not able to make volunteering to let us know.
  • Able to and willing to volunteer unsupervised and use own initiative.
  • A friendly and understanding approach, and motivated to support others. 
  • An understanding of the importance and value of teamwork and being part of a team
  • Can maintain confidentiality

When do I need to be available?
