Our volunteer hosts provide accommodation for local 16-25 year olds who are vulnerable to homelessness. Skills

Joining our community response to youth homelessness requires no experience.... we need people with a desire to help, who have a spare room in Brighton & Hove.

As a host, your role is to provide a welcoming, safe, secure environment for young people.

An ideal host is interested in offering support to young people at a tricky time. They can treat all guests with sensitivity and respect, whatever their backgrounds, opinions, cultural and ethical beliefs. They have good communication skills (good listeners!) and an open-minded, judgement-free approach.

This role is suitable for anyone over the age of 25 and fits around busy lives. Guests arrive in the evening at a time that suits you and they leave in the morning to go to college, work or support services.

Excellent training and support provided. A really rewarding role.

Benefits

  • An opportunity to make a big difference to the lives of young people, bridging the gap between homelessness and a new home.
  • Be part of a community of likeminded people in a safely managed service, with ongoing training, on-call support and social events
  • Expenses paid. Great teamwork. A hugely rewarding role.

Practical Considerations

Practical considerations

  •  As most guests are studying or working in central Brighton/Hove, we need hosts living in this area or nearby, close to public transport.
  •  This opportunity is not available to anyone under 25 due to the nature of the volunteering and the age of the clients that the volunteers are supporting.
  •  This will take place in your home. Overnight stays only (not daytime) with arrival and departure times that fit around your lifestyle.
  •  Due to the nature of the volunteering, as hosts are supporting vulnerable young people in their homes, we do assess the suitability of each volunteer on an individual basis.
  •  Volunteering role will require a DBS check and references.
