Freedom Power Chairs is a Sussex Charity helping to make mobility independence available to everyone.

We provide affordable mobility solutions for those on lower incomes through the low-cost servicing and repair of powerchairs and scooters, low-cost hire of some powerchairs along with the refurbishment and sale of powerchairs and scooters.

You will be involved in the repair and maintenance of mobility equipment such as powerchairs and mobility scooters that have been donated. The equipment is then sold at affordable levels to help those on low income, donated to other charities or hired out.

Practical Considerations

You will be volunteering within our workshop. 

You will have an induction into the charity and be supported by members of the team and will receive appropriate guidance and training to do this role. 

We are looking for someone ideally be able to offer 4 hours or more a week, however we do understand these hours might not be possible for everyone so welcome a chat with anyone interested in the role to consider your availability. The times you do are flexible and can fit around your other commitments.

Skills

We are looking for:

  • Mechanical experience or an aptitude for mechanics
  • A passion for our vision and values, and wants to support a local charity
  • Able to be part of a team
  • Able and willing to volunteer unsupervised and use own initiative 
  • Reliability, and if not able to make volunteering to let us know
  • Ability to follow health and safety requirements
  • Ability to volunteer within our workshop

When do I need to be available?
