Come and support the Sussex Musculoskeletal (MSK) Service by volunteering at Community Assessment Days, held at the Grace Centre in Chichester. Volunteer Stewards are required to support staff and help improve patients’ experience.
What you will be doing:
- Welcome and greet patients attending the assessment day in a friendly
- and professional manner.
- Provide directions and guide patients to the appropriate area or member
- of staff.
- Answer general questions and provide information.
- Signpost patients to appropriate staff when you are unable to answer their
- question or when further support is required.
- Reassure and support patients who may be stressed, anxious or
- unfamiliar with the service.
- Manage an appointment ticketing system and direct patients to clinicians
- when it is their turn.
- Distribute and collect patient questionnaires.
- Help maintain an organised and welcoming environment for patients.
Skills
The skills you need:
- Friendly, approachable and be able to act in a professional manner.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Be able to demonstrate empathy, patience and compassion.
- Be able to move around the building and 'be on your feet' for most of
- each shift.
- Be confident speaking with patients and answering general questions.
- Be able to remain calm and organised in a busy environment.
- Be able to work independently, while also being part of a team.
- Flexible and willing to undertake a variety of tasks.
- Reliable, punctual and dependable.

Practical Considerations
The current Community Assessment Days are:
October 2026: Tuesday 27th October & Wednesday 28th October
December 2026: Monday 7th December & Tuesday 8th December
February 2027: Tuesday 9th February & Wednesday 10th February
Further dates will be planned throughout 2027.
Available shifts are 08.30 to 12.30 or 12.30 to 16.30.
Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of one day in each month and can volunteer on both if they wish.
