As a Volunteer Dance Support Assistant, you'll help children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) take part in fun, creative and inclusive dance sessions.

Volunteers support our weekly classes in Brighton and Worthing, as well as our holiday clubs in Brighton and Eastbourne. You'll join in with the activities, dance alongside participants, encourage creativity and help create a welcoming environment where everyone feels included.

The role is all about supporting people to take part in a way that works for them. You'll encourage participants to make their own choices, build confidence, develop new skills and celebrate their achievements. Every session is different, making this a rewarding and enjoyable opportunity to meet new people while making a real difference.

Skills

You don't need to be a trained dancer or have previous experience working with people with SEND. We will support you to feel confident in the role.

We're looking for volunteers who:

  • Have an interest in dance and enjoy moving. You'll be joining in with the sessions rather than watching from the side.
  • Are enthusiastic, positive and encouraging.
  • Have empathy, patience and a respectful approach to working with people of all abilities.
  • Are happy to work as part of a friendly team and follow guidance from our staff.
  • Are reliable and willing to learn.
  • Can communicate clearly and build positive relationships with children, young people and adults.

Whether you're interested in a career in dance, education, health or social care, or simply want to give something back to your community, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience while helping people discover the joy of dance.

Benefits

1. Gain valuable hands on experience supporting children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Develop skills in communication, teamwork, inclusive practice, leadership, problem solving and confidence that are transferable to many careers.
2. Be part of a fun, friendly and supportive team where you'll make new friends, build confidence and enjoy taking part in creative dance sessions that have a real impact on people's lives.
3. Strengthen your CV or university applications with meaningful volunteering experience in the charity sector. This role is particularly valuable for anyone interested in dance, education, psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, health and social care, or community development.
