We are seeking a volunteer for Rottingdean Whiteway Centre, a busy self-funded community charity run by a management committee of volunteers. We employ tutors to teach courses during term time, we hold talks, we are a meeting place for local groups and clubs, a nursery operates daily in the youth hall, and we have two large halls and two smaller rooms that can be hired for parties and gatherings.

This volunteer role is to look after our website Training will be given, and support from the website designers where needed.  Additionally, working with the volunteer publicity officer, using social media to advertise courses, talks etc. Again support and training will be given.

The successful volunteer will need to visit the centre in Rottingdean when required, and for monthly management meeting. Most of the communications, however, will be by email. 


  • A willingness to be a team player and work with the other committee members, especially the publicity volunteer who will provide material to be publicised.
  • Good organisational skills
  • Able to use social media, and condense messages to suit the media used.  
  • Good IT skills, comfortable with websites and email.
  • Ability to meet deadlines 
  • Able to work from home.

Practical Considerations

This role can be worked at a time to suit the successful volunteer, with occasional time restraints such as website issues, or publicising an event or course that needs a boost.  

Monthly meetings of the volunteer trustees are held in the centre. Volunteers are expected to attend as many as possible. Currently these are the second Tuesday of the month, at 7pm.

Rottingdean is well served by buses. The Centre is 2 minutes’ walk from the No 2 bus route and 8 minutes’ walk from bus routes 12, 14 and 27. There is a small car park in front of the centre.

When do I need to be available?

Details No of hours for this role will vary depending on the time of year. At certain times deadlines will need to be met. Attendance at 10 management committee meetings during the year as a Rottingdean Whiteway Centre Trustee.
