Website, Social Media and Communications Co-ordinator

ArtSpace Brighton is a small arts and mental health charity providing supportive, community-based studio sessions for people with experience of mental health issues. We are run and managed entirely by volunteers, and our members (service users) help guide and decide our activities, goals and direction.

We are keen to find a volunteer able to work 3-5 hours per week, to help with our communications, social media and website, who is familiar with technical aspects and ideally who has knowledge of how we can better connect with the online community, and expand our network.

We need someone who is able to communicate with volunteers, trustees, and members to ensure our activities are regularly shared with others, social media platforms are updated, and that
our website is current and reflects the range of activities we undertake, as well as showcasing the work our members produce. We use Squarespace for our website, so being familiar with this package would be particularly helpful.

Essential skills

• Experience of Squarespace/ ability to train yourself in it
• Creating Instagram posts/ reels as well as Facebook posting, using photo editing software, adding text to images, creating digital flyers for promotion etc
• Good communicator: the ability to listen to people and respond sensitively and appropriately
• Able to work as part of a team and unsupervised
• Able to offer technical and creative guidance and share your skills with others
• Be familiar with IT, have some basic html knowledge, setting up donation buttons etc
• Good organiser, work through tasks sequentially, and work to deadlines
• Trustworthy, keeping passwords and other details in a secure location
• Able to assist with or create articles, spell check etc.

Desirable skills

•  Understanding of optimising social media/ website engagement, knowing ways to better increase awareness of our organisation and it’s aims online.
• An interest in art and creativity.
• Able to research ways to network our charity.

Practical Considerations

On the occasions you would need to come to the studio, bus tickets can be reimbursed, or if you drive, we can provide parking permits. We can also provide directions to the studio.

A DBS will be required (as you will be using our passwords), we would pay for this.

You will be guided through your role by at least two of our team, and support is also offered if you need extra requirements. We will also run you through our safe guarding and confidentiality policies, and what to be mindful of.

When do I need to be available?

As mentioned the role will be 3-5 hours per week. Most of the work can be done in flexible hours to suit, and at home if required, and a lot of communication can be done via email. Sometimes you will be asked to come to our studio when it is quiet, to strategise or share skills with a member of our team. The Studio is currently open for 4 days - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Being able to come in on at least one day occasionally would be great, Friday ideally being the best option as the studio is at it's quietest usually.
