The Black and Minority Ethnnic Young People's Project (BMEYPP) works with young people who are Black, Asian, Arab and of Multiple Heritage aged 11 to 25, providing safe spaces to support their personal and social development.

We have recently moved into new premises in Central Brighton we are excited to be developing new youth club sessions with and for youg people. 

We ensure that young people are consulted and have opportunities to plan and develop their youth activities.

  • Wednesdays 4.30 to 8pm Arts Club
  • Fridays 4.30 to 8.00pm Chill out Youth Club
  • Saturdays Monthly 1pm to 4pm Melanin Shout Project for Care Experienced young people

The aim of the role is to develop trusting relationships with young people, provide information, support and advice, guidance, deliver activities such as games, quizzes arts and crafts.  We are looking for Black, Asian, Arab and people of Multiple Heritage who can be positive role models, in  informal youth club settings.

Practical Considerations

  • The BMEYPP is located in Central Brighton and is easily accessible by public transport
  • Sessions will take place out of school hours evenings and weekends
  • there is a lift in the building

  • London Road - Less than 10 minutes from Gloucester Place

Support Disabled

We have a number of members who are neuro diverse and welcome volunteers with lived experience who can also mirror young people's experiences. All Volunteers are encouraged to have a discussion with the Project Support Manager regarding additional needs and support they have to be able to volunteer.

Skills

As well as being Black, Asian, Arab or Multiple Heritage person, we are seeking people who are committed, reliable, trust worthy and respectful, who are able to develop positive non-judgemental relationships with young people and who can demonstrate resilience, patience, empathy and tolerance. You must like young people!

It would be advantageous if you have skills in arts, crafts, performance arts such as music making, drama, dance, podcasting, poetry, photography, film making, textiles, cooking and be willing to share them with young people through taster sessions and/or developing projects with them.

It will also be advantageous if you have previous experience of working with young people, in formal or informal settings and willing and able to undertake training.

When do I need to be available?

Details Volunteers will need to be available to deliver our sessions on Wednesdays 4.30 to 8pm Fridays 4.30 to 8pm Monthly on Saturdays 1pm to 4pm
